{"id":2,"date":"2010-08-19T22:19:02","date_gmt":"2010-08-19T22:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2016-05-05T10:35:40","modified_gmt":"2016-05-05T10:35:40","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">What is 52SundayDinners.com?<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Pre-planned Sunday Dinners for Your Family<\/h3>\n<p>Imagine not having to plan Sunday Dinners for your family EVER again.\u00a0 Imagine establishing a tradition of gathering with your family around the dinner table each Sunday evening to discuss the events of the week, plan the future week&#8217;s activities and enjoy the company of each other, all while enjoying a nutritious, freshly prepared home-cooked meal.\u00a0 Each meal that we consume begins with giving thanks to God for the blessings he provided, including giving thanks for our family and our food.\u00a0 Sundays are no exception, but become even more special with almost all of the immediate family present each week.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_3634.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-7\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 7px;\" title=\"IMG_3634\" src=\"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_3634-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_3634-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_3634-70x70.jpg 70w, http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_3634-110x110.jpg 110w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Each week four (4) generations share our Sunday dinner.\u00a0 From my mother-in-law who lives near us, to our grandchildren, we usually prepare food for seven adults and an increasing number of grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>I must admit the inspiration was grandchildren.\u00a0 Teresa &amp; I have been blessed with ten of the best grandkids in world, plus there is one on the way!\u00a0 We love to see them.\u00a0 In fact, we enjoy seeing all of our family members.\u00a0 Several of them live in our town of Tyler, Texas.\u00a0 We decided to begin a family tradition of meeting every Sunday at 7:30 for a home cooked meal.\u00a0 No take-out pizza.\u00a0 No drive through pick-up, but a real home cooked family style meal.\u00a0 Nothing too fancy.\u00a0 No china, but good, fresh, nutritious food that we could enjoy as a family as we enjoy the company of each other.\u00a0 OK, it&#8217;s mainly about the grandkids.<\/p>\n<h3>Seek a &#8220;LITTLE&#8221; Help<\/h3>\n<p>Occasionally the grandkids get involved in the food preparation.\u00a0 It may be as simple as mixing, or may be the preparation of a simple desert.\u00a0 If you are reading this page you probably already know the importance of building their self esteem by engaging them in the cooking process.\u00a0 The oldest grandson has been occasionally helping me for a couple of years now and we both look forward to our time together.\u00a0 Please remember, the kitchen is a fun place, but it is your responsibility to protect them from the thing that could burn, cut, chop, or break them.\u00a0 Discuss safety with them and why you must perform certain tasks while they are a safe distance away.<\/p>\n<h3>You Should Try It<\/h3>\n<p>You might be thinking about now, well that sounds peachy, but I can&#8217;t cook.\u00a0 Neither could I, and I&#8217;m still learning, but I enjoy experimenting with different flavors, spices, techniques and styles.\u00a0 Until a just a few years ago my wife cooked almost all meals for the family.\u00a0 My role, like the male in many households, was to do the occasional outdoor grilling and to make bread, a skill I was taught by my father, Big Papa.<\/p>\n<p>I am pleased to report that since I began doing most of the Sunday dinners, no family members have been injured.\u00a0 Some meals turn out better than others and many have been repeated.\u00a0 Over the next 52 weeks I&#8217;ll submit a new recipe each week.\u00a0 You may check in and see the feature for the week, or even better, subscribe to the email list and you&#8217;ll receive an email each week with the features recipe for the following Sunday.\u00a0 Imagine, never having to decide what to feed your family on Sunday evenings!<\/p>\n<h3>No Guarantees &#8211; Experiment as I Do<\/h3>\n<p>I hate recipes, so why would I write them? Because I know that some of you depend on them.\u00a0 I am guilty of\u00a0 &#8220;using a little of this and a pinch of that.&#8221;\u00a0 I have, however, tried to record my progress and quantities very closely.\u00a0 Many of the <em><strong>family style<\/strong> <\/em>meals have been prepared for seven adults and eight young children.\u00a0 At the end of the evening, we usually have a surplus of food and we break-out the Tupperware(r).\u00a0 Many weeks a little of the Sunday Dinner turns into leftovers for quick lunches and lunchbox food.\u00a0 The concept is simple, if you are going through the trouble to fix a pot roast, for example, the cost of an extra pound of carrots, celery and potatoes is minimal.\u00a0 The extra yield, however, is huge.\u00a0 Making gumbo?\u00a0 Throw in a few extra veggies and prepare a few extra cups of rice.\u00a0 This will stretch your food cost considerably and save you time later in the week as you enjoy leftovers.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Not<\/span> 30 Minutes or Less<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-8\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 7px;\" title=\"004\" src=\"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/004-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/004-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/004-70x70.jpg 70w, http:\/\/52sundaydinners.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/004-110x110.jpg 110w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>If you want to learn how to feed your family a complete freshly prepared, family style meal in 30 minutes or less, you should probably stop reading now.\u00a0 Most of the meals featured in 52SundayDinners.com will require more preparation than Rachael Ray&#8217;s 30 minute episodes.\u00a0 Remember that when Rachael Ray or Emeril Lagasse reach in the refrigerator or under the counter and pull-in the ingredients, someone has already washed, diced, measured, marinated, and sometimes even cooked their featured dish for that episode.<\/p>\n<p>On 52SundayDinners.com I&#8217;ll present you with reality.\u00a0 For me, the washing, chopping, slicing and slow cooking for our Sunday Dinners is a statement of love for my family.\u00a0 It is not hard.\u00a0 It is just not &#8220;shake &amp; bake&#8221; or &#8220;set it and forget it.&#8221;\u00a0 I prepare a special meal\u00a0 each Sunday because I know at the end of the evening my mother-in-law, my grown children and my grandkids will leave here with big smiles on their faces, and remember &#8211; for me, I&#8217;ll get to see the grandkids!<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is 52SundayDinners.com?
