Our “Stupid Food” for this month is a vacuum packed pair of perfectly formed ears of Corn on the Cob. It was picked last year in Thailand, vacuum packed in plastic, shipped across the ocean, shipped to a warehouse somewhere in the US and then delivered to an unrefrigerated shelf in your local grocery store. All for only about a two bucks for a perfect pair. Hey people, don’t buy this stuff and I’ll bet they quit manufacturing it. I just love that the lower-left corner says “All Natural.” The ingredients are listed as “Sweet Corn and Water.” Hmmm. No preservatives. I can’t imagine that you could blanch or cook two ears of corn, vacuum pack them for a year or two without preservatives and expect them to be edible. Time will tell if this one survives.
Hey people, when corn is in season in the USA, buy FRESH CORN. It is worth the little effort it takes to clean and cook it. When it is not in season, hit the freezer isle and pray for an early harvest.
This shout-out goes to the good people of Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota. When the package of corn says “Product of Thailand” its a long way from home, and it doesn’t have to be.
Bought a package and tried it. It was pretty dang good. Nice flavor. Good to take camping.
it is made by a retort machine similar to canned food like spam, tuna, or ready to drink capri-san. one year shelf life. look it up or ask your kid’s science teacher, pal.
It is starilized corn on cob, cooked product then pack in the special pouch ( High barirer for oxigen and sun light ) from Japanese packaging supplier.
